BoCA (Boston Cognitive Assessment) is a clinically validated, 10-minute digital cognitive assessment that evaluates 8 key cognitive domains. It's designed specifically for older adults and provides reliable, longitudinal tracking of cognitive health.
The BoCA assessment takes under 10 minutes. The exact time depends on how quickly you respond.
BoCA evaluates 8 cognitive domains: Memory, Attention, Language, Executive Function, Mental Math, Visuospatial Skills, Orientation, and Delayed Recall. Each domain is assessed using scientifically validated tasks.
BoCA is available as an app for iPhone and iPad. It requires iOS 17.0 or later.
Yes. You need an internet connection to download the app, take the assessment, and save your results.
Yes. To keep your results and see how they change, you need a free account. We suggest taking BoCA about once a month. If a test didn't go well, for example because you were tired or distracted, you can take it again after 7 days. BoCA uses different tasks each time, so practice effects stay minimal.
No. You can take BoCA as a guest and see your total score. To keep your results, create a free account from the results screen; if you leave without one, you won't be able to see those results again. A free account also shows your scores for each of the 8 areas BoCA measures and lets you track changes over time. You can create one in the app with your email address. If you already have an account, sign in before you start.
Yes, once the program launches. The Boston Cognitive Program isn't open yet: we're finalizing it and preparing for launch. BoCA account holders are already on our priority list, and we'll let you know as soon as it opens. Your free BoCA account will then give you access to the program's free version: a personalized wellness plan with goals and practices matched to your brain-health factors, an AI guide that answers your brain-health questions, and a monthly BoCA check. Joining is optional, and you'll be asked to review and agree to the program's terms before you start. Learn more at program.bostoncognitive.com.
Don't worry about mistakes! The assessment is designed to account for normal variations in performance. Just do your best and answer as quickly and accurately as you can.
Your results are available immediately after completing the assessment. You can view them in the app, and they're also stored securely for longitudinal tracking and comparison.
Results show your performance across 8 cognitive domains compared to age- and gender-matched norms. They help identify strengths and areas that may need attention, but should not replace professional medical evaluation.
Yes. Only people who need your information can see it. Your data is encrypted when it's sent and when it's stored. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we never use your health information for advertising. We share it only as described in our Privacy Policy, such as with service providers that help us run BoCA. For questions about your data, contact [email protected].
As an individual BoCA user, you can show your doctor your results on your iPhone or iPad, or take a screenshot and print it. With a free account, that includes your scores over time. The app can't send results directly. If your doctor would like to use BoCA in their practice, with reports designed for professional use, they can contact us at bostoncognitive.com.
The free BoCA app is for personal use: individuals checking their own brain health. It may not be used for commercial purposes, such as testing patients, clients, or research participants in a practice, care facility, or study, whether with accounts or as a guest. For professional use, Boston Cognitive offers BoCA licenses for providers and researchers. Please contact us at bostoncognitive.com to ask about a commercial license.
